Tim built "CJ", a Speed 20 Alvis Special, 20 years ago and has competed in over 100 VSCC and Bentley Drivers' Club events in her.
Tim's son, Guy, has started racing again and this year he is replacing the 2.7 litre Speed 20 engine with a Speed 25 3.5 litre engine which has a lightened flywheel and a fast road camshaft but is otherwise standard.  The car has original cable brakes and original gearbox and suspension.
Tim and Guy are also building an Alvis Firefly/Speed 25 special which will be completed, ready for racing in 2002.
Tim and Guy have rebuilt vintage racing engines and suspensions on a variety of cars.  Tony Bianchi's built Alvis Speed 25 single seater (pictured opposite), Rivers Fletcher's built Speed 20 Special, Richard Sander's Silver Eagle Special, Lotus and Austins.
Race reliability is the ethos that should be applied to road cars too - safety and longevity are equally important to both road and circuit.
